Starlet Johnson

Starlet Johnson is passionate about helping people connect—with God, with each other, and with purpose. As Communications Director at REAL Church, she brings more than 20 years of marketing and corporate communications experience combined with a deep love for using communication to engage congregations for Kingdom purposes.  Throughout her career at the FDA and Fortune 15 healthcare companies, Starlet has specialized in building high-performing teams, crafting strategic messaging, and visual storytelling, and creating engaging experiences. Her heart, however, has always been in ministry and service. 

She spent eight years leading the broadcast news team for New Vision International Ministries and five years with the media production team at New Life Church in LaPlata, Maryland. These experiences shaped her belief that church communication should inspire, connect, and invite people into something bigger than themselves. 

Starlet also serves as a board member for the Billy & Barbara Coleman Family Foundation, honoring her parents’ legacies in music, education, and giving. The foundation promotes childhood music education and donates instruments to underprivileged children. She leads the foundation’s brand and communications strategy, continuing her parents’ commitment to investing in the next generation.

At REAL Church, Starlet leads the strategy for all communication channels, ensuring  everyone can stay informed and engaged. She’s focused on expanding accessibility,  promoting community involvement, increasing volunteerism, and building authentic  conversations. She especially loves producing videos that capture how God is moving  in and through REAL Church. 

Starlet believes in creating collaborative teams where everyone is empowered to contribute their gifts, encouraged toward excellence, and celebrated for their work. 

She holds a Master of Science in Journalism from Quinnipiac University, a Bachelor in Communications Science from the University of Connecticut, and certificates in Public Relations Strategy and Artificial Intelligence for Productivity from Cornell University. 

Originally from Norwich, Connecticut, Starlet lives in LaPlata, Maryland with her husband, Jamarr, and their Boston Terrier, Bailey.
